Halloween Nails

These nails has been really popular on instagram so i thought i would do a quick blog post on them. Halloween is coming, one of my favorite holidays (is is a holiday?) so i wanted to do something a bit Halloween based with my nails and this was really easy (nail art and me aren't friends). For the base coat i used Essie fear and desire (which you can get for £1.99 on fragrancedirect) but any orange nail polish will do if you have have one. This is my first Essie polish and i have to say i'm impressed, the formula is great, i love the brush and the colour pay off is good, i'm a bit sad they don't have more colours on fragrancedirect. I then topped it off with L'oreal top coat in confetti, the black and white glitter just adds something to the orange making it really pop and adding a bit more of a spooky element. So there you have it, quick and easy Halloween nails.

L'Oreal Sequin Explosion

While in Bristol on Saturday we went to check out the offering in Boots, i happened to stumble upon the L'Oreal stand and see they had the new collection in, i loved Confetti from the last collection and had seen some pictures of this new collection but while at the stand one polish in particular caught my eye, Sequin Explosion.

It's what it says on the bottle really, an eye catching explosion of different colored and shaped glitter. It is a top coat so is designed to go over another polish but i think this could be used on its own and still make a statement. The colours inside are almost jewel effect and it has 3d texture to it when it dries.

Over OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! Sorry it isn't the best picture.
I found it really easy to apply (the same cannot be said for removal, tin foil was needed) and it can be built up really well, you will see from my pictures that i put two coats on as i wanted quite a dense glitter but it looks just as good with one coat. This is currently available in Boots and Superdrug for £4.99 but i got mine for £3.99 as Boots had £1 off L'oreal nail polishes. I think i like this polish so much that i might need to get another bottle as back up.

Feather Nails

I recently seen the new nail polish by Nails Inc causing a flurry in the blogging world, but at £11 they are a tad on the pricey side, i found a pretty good dupe which is a fraction of the cost. Invogue, they sell four colours of the feather polishes and are available at Superdrug for £3.49 meaning you could get all 4 for a few pounds more than one of the Nails Inc ones.

I put one coat of OPI Can't Find My Czechbook (from the Euro Centrale range) which is a nice pastel blue colour, i got in as part of the mini collection and i really like it, if i was wearing it on it's on i would put two coats on to get full coverage but as i was putting a top coat on, i thought one would be enough. Once dry i put the Invogue feather in Jaye Bird over the top, It is a clear polish with blue and white stripes of glitter. I found dotting it on more successful that painting it on, but i wanted quite a lot of the feather effect, if you wanted something more minimal, painting would be fine. All topped of with my Sally Hansen Insta Dri.

I really like this look, it is quite bright and makes me think of spring but without being in your face and i really like the feather look over the top.

What do you think of the feather look for nails? Have you tried Invogue?

Rimmel Metal Rush

I seen a review of one of these nail polishes on someones blog and i loved it so much i had to have it, i googled Rimmel Metal Rush and was taken to ASOS, they have 4 shades for £3.19 each instead of £3.99, Bargain! so i got two hehe. Royal Blue and Purple Reign.

Swatches from the ASOS website, they look a bit like galaxies.

I was excited when these arrived and wanted to paint my nails to try them out, i did one hand with the Royal Blue and one hand with the Purple Reign. They needed two coats to give a full coverage as on the first coat it was a bit see through still. The brush is a lovely flat brush which i really like, it makes painting so much easier as you can do it in pretty much three strokes and get into the edges better. It was quick drying, i was able to put the second coat on a few minutes after the second and apart from one smudge it dried really well (not one of those you think it is dry so do something and then it smears everywhere) i have only had it on a few hours so i don't know how well it will last yet, but for £3.19 i don't really mind, go grab yourself a bargain now.

Depending on the light they can look very different, a bit like a petrol spill, which i personally like.

OPI Nail Polish

Another new love of my mine is OPI nail polish. I have been a serial nail biter since i was child, i remember my mother trying all sorts of things to get me to grow my nails, from nasty tasting nail stuff to money but nothing worked, i would just absent mindedly nibble away, or when i was stressed i would just take delight in    chewing my nails off, however recently this seems to have changed, my bf bought me the Ciate advent calender so now i have a huge collection of nail polish so i actually tried to grow my nails, and i did pretty well, until they started breaking and snapping because they are quite weak but i know i just need to persevere with it, as it will be worth it. I would like to add, i will never be growing them hugely long, just long enough to paint them nicely.

So with this in mind i have recently acquired  a few OPI nail polishes, which people rave about, but have a very high price tag, i would normally only spend a few pounds on a nail polish so this is a big investment for me. So here is my little collection.

Suzi Says Feng Shui. This was a very runny nail polish so a little bit went a long way. It is quite a bright blue color which i really like. I received this item in a Glamour goody bag.

The Color To Watch. This is a glitter polish, it needed 3 coats to build the color up. It's a stunning lilac color, really pretty. I bought this from a blog sale for £5.

OPI Ink. This is another glitter polish, it needed 2 coats but you could get away with one. It is a very dark purple color. I also got this from a blog sale (the same one) for £5.

William Tell Me About. In the bottle this looks like a really dark red, almost oxblood or burgundy but on it is more bright red looking (if that makes sense), This is only one coat but it would need two (i didn't get to do two as i knocked the bottle over and it went on my bed so i was on damage control). Again this polish was quite runny. I got this in a Xmas beauty box from my best friend.

Moonraker. This is part of the James Bond collection (there are a few others i have my eye on but waiting until i have the funds or find them cheap). This is an amazing silver/blue color which i think is quite unusual and was instantly drawn to it when i seen it, i asked Santa for this and clearly a good girl as it was under the tree Xmas day. This is one coat, it is quite thick so you don't need a lot.

Do you like OPI nail polish? Do you have a Favorite color?
